What is the baton light?
A hand-held light for directing traffic after dark. It is a red translucent tube on a black handle, with the switch between the two and a cord that loops round the wrist. You may also know it as a traffic baton. At night it takes over from the flag and the Stop/Go paddle a flagger uses by day.
When to rent the baton light
- Night lane closures where traffic is held and released by hand.
- Site accesses where lorries cross a live road after dark.
- Car parks, loading bays and event traffic at night.
Before you rent the baton light
- The standard calls for it. A flagger working at night uses a traffic baton light, with the same method as flagging by day (ATJ 2C/85, 2.3.2.15).
- Batteries are not included. Each light takes two D-size (1.5 V) batteries, so bring a set for every light you rent.
- Order one for each flagger on the night shift. Two flaggers, one at each end of the work area, means two lights.
- It works with the Flag Man signboard, which warns drivers that someone ahead is controlling traffic. We rent the board, the traffic paddle and the flag separately.
- Tell us how many you need, your start date, how long you need them, and whether we deliver or you collect from the Bangi yard.
