What this sign says

A symbol board with no wording on the face. It carries two black lines inside a yellow diamond on fluorescent orange, one bending in toward the other to show the carriageway closing up, with a white distance plate below. It warns that the road ahead narrows, and the symbol is set for a narrowing from the left or the right.

When it is used

  • Lane or shoulder work where the running width drops but the road stays open.
  • Trenching, drain and kerb work along one verge.
  • Bridge, culvert and resurfacing jobs with one side coned off.
  • A temporary pinch at a site access or lorry crossing.

Before you order

  • Our face is 1200 x 900 on 3.0MM ACP. That is our stock size, not a figure taken from the standard, so check it against your traffic management plan.
  • The board is adjustable, so one unit covers a narrowing from either side. Tell us which way it faces on the day.
  • The standard gives its road narrow sign a distance range of 100 m to 1400 m (ATJ 2C/85, Part Two). Fix the setback in your traffic management plan, then tell us the figure for the plate.
  • Order cones with it. Guidance cones run at 15 m spacing within the traffic control zone, and super cones at 5 m through the taper (ATJ 2C/85, 2.3.2.1(b) and 2.3.2.2(a)).
  • Tell us the frame you want (A shape or post), how many boards, your start date, how long you need them, and whether we deliver or you collect from the Bangi yard.
